Blogs and wikis

I've looked at some of the blog and wikis. I'm not there yet. Not there isn't value, I'm just trying to prioritize. My school uses moodle as an official platform and I haven't fully used all its aspects yet. There are other technology pieces I want to incorporate before I think about adding any more to my plate. Three teachers teaching regular chem with me did class blogs last year and it didn't work out for them. I need to digest some of this other tech stuff first.

  1. I can understand where you're coming from. Not everything works for everyone and when there's a lot of new information (such as everything I've learned in this class) it can be hard to decide which ones would be best utilized in my classroom. I still don't know what I want to do for my final project, mostly because I don't want to start something that I will end up abandoning part way through the year.

  2. I here you loud and clear. Our district uses Moodle and though it has some good features, its learning curve is steep. I think that it is not user friendly at all and takes so much time. I am getting it down but if I had my choice I would find something that is a lot more user friendly. I think that is the nature of an open source program such as Moodle. I am going to use a wiki for extra credit. Post a few challenging articles or projects and let those students interested in it go for it. It will be interesting to see what will happen. Good luck.

  3. Jim,
I agree with you. I feel like I have not utilized much of what Moodle has to offer yet. I guess we are lucky that our entire school is on the same platform and that we have good support to help us implement Moodle compared to other schools. I feel like I need to continue to work on that platform for my class page rather than a blog or wiki since the school wants teachers to use it and since students can access all of their classes from there. I am thinking along the same lines as Murray...maybe use a blog or wiki for a specific purpose other than as a platform.
